Teaching and Learning Fairs

Last week, teaching and learning fairs took place at City of Oxford and Reading College.

The first of the fairs was held at Oxford, Tuesday 4 July, and began with a Keynote speech from Mary Kitchener who works at Oxford Centre for Staff Learning and Development at Oxford Brookes University as an educational developer. The day then continued with sessions in areas such as, ‘How video has been used by Arts and Useful browser based tool for using video with your students’ and 'Modlue Mapping'.

Shivender Parmer, Learning Coach for Technology at Blackbird Leys, conducted a session on 'Employer engagement' and said about the session, "It was useful to share ideas and good practice with colleagues on how we can move forward with employer engagement next year. All agreed the benefits to students would be incredible as we would be helping to change lives and society as a whole"

Reading sessions took place on Thursday 6 July, beginning with a Keynote from Bryan Mathers, co-founder of a number of tech startups. The day then followed much the same as Oxford with sessions such as, ‘Goal Setting with Learners’, ‘Readiness and Learning – Setting high Expectations’ and ‘Retention and Motivation’.

James Kieft, Learning and Development Manager and organiser of the event said, “The main focus of the Teaching learning fairs was to give colleagues an opportunity to share some of their good practice from throughout the year, for the first time this year we had two fair one in Oxford and one in Reading.

The feedback received from colleagues so far has been very positive. Looking to next year we, the ALF team, will be looking to provide staff with greater opportunities to share good practice throughout the year.”

Both fairs concluded with the staff awards. This was a great time to celebrate all the hard work produced by teachers and support staff over the course of the year. Congratulations to all those nominated as well as the worthy winners!
